Apple goes with Blu-Ray

According to Appleinsider.com and other anonymous sources, Apple will be adding Blu-Ray capable drives in their Pro Workstations around the 1st quarter of 2008.

Although this is clearly a rumor, I have a feeling they are 100% correct. Steve Jobs has been a supporter for Blu-Ray in the past and it’s way past due for any kind of high definition media format support on the Mac.

We can expect to see this announced at Macworld 2008 for the Mac Pro and possibly the MacBook Pro. Unfortunately it’s only a reader and not a burner for now.

I wish HD-DVD and Blue-Ray would make some hybrid combo drive, but hey we have to buy two very useless expensive players to play expensive useless HD-DVD and Blue-Ray discs. This high definition battle is very annoying.

Do you suppose it will be possible to add a Blu-Ray drive to a current model Mac Pro or are there other system requirements that would prevent an upgrade?

Not until next patch. When its released, find out what drive is in it and get oem version online.

This could sway the tide; I really thought the name and price of HD-DVD would give it the edge, but with Apple taking Blu-Ray, well that will send ripples.

Ya HD-DVD just canceled its CES Press conference today over Warner going to Blu-Ray. I think HD-DVD is pretty much on its way out.
