Apple Releases a Tutorial to Capture Screen Shots, But It’s Wrong

Apple released a nice tutorial on how to take snapshots without opening the Grab Utility. The only problem is that it’s wrong, but close.Instead of using the option key specified in the tutorial, use shift instead.
To Save to a PNG File (Leopard) on Your Desktop
Command + Shift + 3 = Take Picture of Screen.
Command + Shift + 4 = Take Picture of Selection.
Command + Shift + 4, then tap Spacebar = Take Picture of Selected Window, Menu, Dialog Boxes or Desktop Icon.
To Save Image to Clipboard
Command + Control + Shift + 3 = Take Picture of Screen, Place in Clipboard.
Command + Control + Shift + 4 = Take Picture of Selection, Place in Clipboard.
Command + Control + Shift + 4, then tap Spacebar = Take Picture of Selected Window, Menu, Dialog Boxes or Desktop Icon and Place in Clipboard.

On the last one, I believe you need Command + Shift + 4 and then press Spacebar to select the window.

Also, what is the little crosshair, with a circle and some umbers, which I assume to be screen coordinates. Question is: What is that thing about?

Ah, nevermind I see that it is to make the selection.

Just figured out that you can use the Command + Shift + 4 + Spacebar to duplicate your desktop background, take a picture of the dock, as well as of the holy, unmovable bar; all as separate items.
Useful to show off applications, dock modifications, applications that add a button that holy bar o to show off your desktop picture without finding it through finder.
No - I don’t know its real name.

Thanks Paul Lomuaro for the the addition commands, I added them and separated the commands into 2 different categories (Desktop and Clipboard)

By playing around a bit more I also noticed that you can use the Command+Shift+4+Space to take pictures of dialog boxes, great for showing errors on support forums.

I love apple’s screenshot options! I keep finding myself typing Command-Option-4 on my XP box at work trying to binder-box a screenshot. HAHAHA

This is great info! Im kinda new to the mac, and missed my print screen to take screenshots. One thing i like is you can use the Command+Shift+4+Space then drag the mouse with the camera to any window.
Nice utility to have.
